G. Metsovitis takes over as General Manager at the New International Airport of Heraklion, Crete
Mr. Ioannis Metsovitis takes over as General Manager at the New International Airport of Heraklion, Crete (IAHC).
With long experience in the aviation industry in Greece and abroad, Mr. Metsovitis began his career as a commercial pilot and flight instructor. He then took on senior management roles in the airport industry.
Specifically, he participated in the management team of the Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" since the start of the company's operation. Subsequently, he joined the executive team of Hamad International Airport and took over the leadership of the operations of Qatar's airports with a particular emphasis on maintaining high-quality operations and passenger experience in a dynamic and changing environment, serving as SVP Operations.
Before taking on the role of General Manager of the New International Airport of Heraklion, Crete (IAHC), Mr. Metsovitis led the team that prepared and highlighted the International Airports in Doha, Qatar (Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport). These airports welcomed the overwhelming majority of visitors during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It is reminded that the company "International Airport of Heraklion Crete" (IAHC) has been established for the construction and management of the New International Airport in Kasteli, Crete. The stakeholders in this project include the Greek Government (45.90%), GΕΚ ΤΕRΝΑ S.Α. (32.46%), and GMR Airports Ltd (21.64%). The construction of the new airport, which will replace the existing one, is undertaken by TERNA S.A., and the design envisions the creation of a state-of-the-art airport according to a set of technical and operational specifications that will meet current and future traffic needs.
